So I thought I’d learn square stitch bead weaving, recommended to me by @DesertLilyArtistry.bsky.social on BlueSky. She shared a really good video that’s so easy to follow that takes you through, step by step, using larger beads to make it really clear what the process is. I obviously decided that I don’t need to practice with larger beads, I’m ok at sewing small things by hand. Right, time to hit the bead stash! I know, I’ve just bought some pretty seed beads from Beads Unlimited, so let’s Get Started!
Wait, they’re all still in their packaging, maybe I should decant them into boxes first so I can see and get at them more easily, rather than in the little plastic bags they arrived in. Ok, let’s Get Started!

Hold on, those aren’t the only seed beads I have and they’re really nice ones, I don’t want to mess them up. I know, I have a bag of ‘odds & sods’ left over from when I sorted that huge heap of broken jewellery I got from eBay. I’ll grab that bag, and then Get Started!

Oh wow, there aren’t just seed beads in here, there’s all kinds. Plus I meant to get rid of the useless/ugly/broken ones and I haven’t yet. Right, I’ll just sort them into different sizes and types, that’ll make it easier when I Get Started!
Good grief, do you have any idea how many different sizes of seed bead there are? And how much size variation there is in vintage seed beads? Let me just grab the magnifier, and my tweezers, I need to make sure they’re sorted properly… but it’s ok, once I’ve done this I can Get Started!
Just a minute, I set up this whole new website, and I need something for my first post. I’ll fire up the laptop and get writing, after all is there anything that introduces me better than a story about how I never quite Get Started?
